Mike has been a mentor to me for the past 7 years. He helped me navigate from a PMO coordinator position to that of a project manager (in addition to championing me for the coordinator job in the first place!). He has a lot of experience coupled with a natural skill in identifying and navigating strategic relationships, which was helpful to me in my new career as project manager, where stakeholder management is critical. I've learned so much listening to him negotiate challenging situations. He is able to clearly present all sides of an issue in a way that lowers people's natural defenses, often with humor, so that a win-win compromise is achieved. This also includes the ability to quickly identify the most critical element of an issue or situation, which allows him to efficiently and successfully resolve said issue. I've seen Mike earn the respect and friendship of many work colleagues over the years, and former colleagues still speak of him fondly 10 years later! The most valuable lesson he has taught me is to never "throw anyone under the bus" - either inadvertently or on purpose, and that has come in handy many times. He has a strong moral code and is not afraid to speak up if something doesn't seem right. He also passed that on to me, which is another invaluable tool for project managers (risk management). I owe my PM career to Mike and I know any team would be lucky to have him.
